Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Guidelines for Authors

Submissions to the Regeneratio Journal must meet the generally accepted criteria of a high-quality research work for publication. These considerations include, but are not limited to, proper writing, textual coherence, thematic contextualization, depth of analysis, document structure, clarity in the presentation of results, and compliance with anti-plagiarism regulations, among others.

  1. General Considerations

All contributors involved in regular or special issues must be registered with a username and password on the Regeneratio Journal website: [https://regeneratio.uci.ac.cr]. If already registered, logging in will suffice.

These actions are required to submit contributions, verify submissions, and track recent uploads.

The journal's portal is managed through the Open Journal System (OJS), an open-access application sponsored by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), a multi-university initiative that develops such software and conducts research to enhance the quality and reach of academic publications.

  1. Types of Accepted Articles

Research Articles: 

Report the results of original, unpublished theoretical or experimental research (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods). Must include at least 10 references and have a maximum length of 9,000 words. 

Review Articles: 

These articles compile, analyze, synthesize, and discuss published or practice-derived information on a topic, providing a critical review of the reported knowledge and highlighting improvements, complements, or original perspectives. They offer a theoretical synthesis and a current vision of the subject. Must include at least 10 references and have a maximum length of 7,500 words. 

Reflection Articles: 

Describe successful experiences in the application of technologies, methods, and cultural or indigenous knowledge, showcasing noteworthy achievements in any field, preferably with societal contributions. Must include at least 10 references and have a maximum length of 7,500 words. 

Interviews: 

Titled *Voices of Regeneration*, with a maximum length of 2,000 words. 

Letters to the Editor: 

  An open section for readers to complement or discuss articles or texts previously published, or to address any thematic or disciplinary area covered by the journal. Maximum length: 1,500 words. 

Reviews: 

  Informative, comparative, evaluative, or motivational commentaries on a book, article, or other published text, with a maximum length of 1,000 words. 

  1. General Structure of Contributions

Contributions must follow the following structure:

Preliminary Section: 

  - A cover page including the title (16 pts.), authors' names (14 pts.), affiliations, email, and ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), along with an author notes section to be completed as required. 

  - An informative abstract in Spanish and English (titled *Abstract*), with a maximum of 200 words in a single paragraph. The abstract should include the research objective, a brief description of the methodology, key results, and relevant conclusions. The label “Abstract” should appear at the top left of the page following the cover page. 

  - At the end of each abstract, 5 to 7 keywords should be listed in Spanish and English, arranged alphabetically, following the labels “Palabras clave:” or “Keywords:” respectively. Keywords should be separated by semicolons and written in lowercase. 

  - Keywords should be selected from the UNESCO Thesaurus in Spanish and English ([http://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/es/](http://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/es/)). For agricultural and related topics, the AGROVOC Thesaurus should be used ([http://aims.fao.org/es/standards/agrovoc/functionalities/search](http://aims.fao.org/es/standards/agrovoc/functionalities/search)). 

  - An introduction that includes the topic statement or problem, objectives, justification, and theoretical references (if required). 

Main Section: 

For research articles: Methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions. 

For review articles: Development of the review, findings derived from the review. 

For reflection articles: Development of the reflection, generated contributions. 

For reviews: Presentation of the work, commented synthesis, evaluative and critical judgment, conclusion. 

Final Section: 

 - References (only those cited in the article). 

  1. Publication Languages

Articles are published in Spanish and English; authors are responsible for providing both versions. Articles may, at the University's discretion, undergo language and style revisions before publication and be returned to the authors for consultation and corrections.

  1. Submission Requirements

- The list of co-authors cannot be modified once the work has been submitted to the platform. 

- Authors must submit a declaration of originality guaranteeing that the document is unpublished and not simultaneously submitted to other publications. 

- The declaration must also reflect the consent and approval of all authors for publication in Regeneratio Journal. 

- Authors must submit a separate document containing: 

  - Title (in uppercase and lowercase, in Spanish and English). 

  - Research line under which the work falls. 

  - Full names of all authors. 

  - Contact details: affiliation, full postal address, and email. 

  - ORCID ID for each author. 

  - Curriculum summary (maximum 100 words). 

  - Corresponding author identification. 

  - A list of potential reviewers with their emails (at least three, affiliated with institutions different from the authors'). 

- References must include DOIs using the free tool [http://www.crossref.org/simpleTextQuery](http://www.crossref.org/simpleTextQuery). 

- URLs should be provided for all references where applicable. 

  1. Manuscript Formatting

- The manuscript must be prepared in Microsoft Word (*.docx) format. Submissions in *.pdf or Open Office will not be accepted. 

- Pages should be letter-sized, single-column, Arial 11-point font, with Arabic numbering, 2.54 cm margins, and 1.27 cm indentation. 

- The header should include a short title in Arial 10, left-aligned. 

- Footnotes should be written in 10 pts. 

- Page numbers should be placed in the footer, right-aligned. 

- Double spacing is required except for the abstract and references, which should be single-spaced. 

- Section titles should be bold, capitalized, and left-aligned. 

- Mathematical symbols should be clear and properly positioned. 

- References and citations should follow the latest APA style guidelines. 

- Figures should be in jpg, png, or gif format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. 

  1. Editorial Process

- Articles should be uploaded via the “Submit Article” button on the main page. 

- Submissions will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee within seven calendar days to decide on their suitability for peer review. 

- Approved articles will proceed to double-blind peer review. 

- Evaluators will assess articles based on: 

  1. Editorial, social, and cultural relevance.
  2. Clarity of exposition.
  3. Scientific rigor and argumentation.
  4. Originality and innovation.

- Articles are classified as: Approved, Approved with Modifications, or Not Approved. 

Ethical Considerations: In case of ethical misconduct, *Revista Regeneratio* will take corrective actions in line with COPE and CSE recommendations.

Cartas al Editor

Sección abierta a todas las personas lectoras, que complementan o discuten artículos u otros textos publicados o sobre algún área temática o disciplinar abordada por la revista, con una extensión máxima de 2500 palabras.

Artículos de Investigación

Research articles: Collect the results of unpublished, original, theoretical or experimental, qualitative, quantitative or mixed research. Papers  are peer reviewed. Each one must have a maximum of twenty-five (25) pages with images and tables included, double spaced (maximum 9000 words)

Artículos de revisión

Un estudio en el que se recopila, analiza, sintetiza y discute la información publicada o derivada de la práctica sobre un tema, que incluye un examen crítico del estado de los conocimientos reportados en la literatura, que aporta alguna mejora, complemento o perspectiva original a destacarse expresamente.
Son una síntesis teórica y una visión actual del tema abordado.  Debe contener un número no menor de 20 citas referenciales.

Artículos de reflexión

Escritos que reflejan posiciones, argumentos y propuestas varias de un autor o grupo de autores,  que giran alrededor de los temas en el ámbito de la Revista, que describen experiencias positivas en la aplicación de tecnologías, métodos y saberes culturales y autóctonos con logros reseñables en cualquier campo, con preferencia en casos que supongan aportaciones a la sociedad, realizados desde las comunidades de aprendizaje y las comunidades de vida. Los manuscritos son revisadas por pares. Extensión máxima de 7500 palabras. Debe contener un número no menor de 20 citas referenciales.

Las caras de la regeneración

Entrevistas realizadas a investigadores, académicos o funcionarios sobre las diferentes miradas desde las que se aborda el entendimiento del desarrollo regenerativo, el pensamiento complejo, los procesos y  fenómenos emergentes que circundan a las sociedades y los ecosistemas planetarios.

Reseñas

Escritos que p`resentan una revisión crítica de una obra bibliográfica relevante, que implica comentarios informativos, comparativos, valorativos o motivadores, elaborados sobre un libro, un artículo u otro texto publicado, relevante para el ámbito temático de la  revista. Tienen una extensión  máxima de 1000 palabras.
